Language Arts:  This week the learners will recognize & analyze characteristics of dramas. We will examine scenes and stage directions. We will end our week with a Reader's Theater.

Math: This week will will continue working on multiplication.  We will be learning lots of different  strategies and practicing them so we are comfortable with multiple ways of solving multiplication problems. 4th graders are expected to multiply up to 4 digits by 1 digit (5462 x 5) and 2 digits by 2 digits (54 x 81).

Science:  We will be looking at the different forms of energy this week!  We will differentiate among forms of energy, including mechanical, sound, electrical, light, and thermal.

Social Studies: We will conclude our unit of study on the 4 regions of Texas. We will work in groups to complete Mind Mission activities about the different regions.

At this time, we will not be assigning any homework. If you are looking for extra practice or resources, we would always encourage students to read at home! (Kids are more motivated to read when they are reading books they've chosen and find interesting.) In addition, students have access to online resources such as iStation, Raz Kids. For math, we would love for students to login to Dreambox or ReflexMath at home and complete lessons.

Classroom Reminders:

Just a couple things to help our days run as smoothly as possible:

  • Every child needs to bring a water bottle (labeled, please). We can refill bottles but the actual water fountains are closed for now. PLEASE make sure that your learner brings a PLASTIC water bottle.  The water bottles that are glass with the rubber around them will break and shatter if dropped.
  • We take a snack break each day around 10am as we have a late lunch. Please make sure that all snacks are peanut and tree nut free. This includes peanuts, peanut butter, cashews, almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc. This also includes Nutella. Nuts are okay in the cafeteria for lunch.
  • iPads will be taken home every evening and need to be brought back, fully charged, everyday. We are VERY limited on chargers so it makes it difficult when several need to be plugged in. We have stressed to the learners that they are old enough to be responsible for their iPads but it would be great if you could help reinforce a routine at home.
  • Fidgets as toys are becoming a big problem.  If your child is not truly in need of a fidget to help with concentration, we ask that these stay at home.

Free Lunch:

We have had a little confusion with the free lunch program for elementary aged students. The free lunch consists of a full meal - entree, milk / juice, fruits and veggies.  Other items, such as "seconds," chips, snacks, ice cream, and bottled water are NOT part of the free lunch program and will be charged. For more information, please click here or contact Ms. Star at eprimera@coppellisd.com
