Week of October 4-10

 

                                   

October 7th: End of 9 wks / Early Release Day 12:30pm (lunch is at 11:00)

October 8th: Parent / Teacher Conferences

October 11th: No School

October 12th: Start of 2nd 9 weeks

Language Arts:  This week the learners will learners will comprehend and analyze various traditional literature including Tall Tales, Fables and Legends.

Math: This week will will continue working on multiplication.  We have learned so many strategies for 1 digit by up to 4 digits.  We will apply these strategies to 2 digits by 2 digits. 

Social Studies: We will begin our unit on unit on European exploration and colonization of Texas. This week we fill focus on the motivation for exploration.

Science:  We will begin our investigation of electrical energy.  This week we will learn to light a bulb with a battery and wires.  We will also differentiate between conductors and insulators.

At this time, we will not be assigning any homework. If you are looking for extra practice or resources, we would always encourage students to read at home! (Kids are more motivated to read when they are reading books they've chosen and find interesting.) In addition, students have access to online resources such as iStation, Raz Kids. For math, we would love for students to login to Dreambox or ReflexMath at home and complete lessons.

Each learner needs to have the following items each day:

1. Water Bottle

2. Snack (if your child will be buying one from the cafeteria, this needs to be done as soon as they get to school - not during class)

3. Fully charged iPad - please make sure it is charging at night by double checking the battery icon.

Free Lunch:

We have had a little confusion with the free lunch program for elementary aged students. The free lunch consists of a full meal - entree, milk / juice, fruits and veggies.  Other items, such as "seconds," chips, snacks, ice cream, and bottled water are NOT part of the free lunch program and will be charged.
