Week of Sept 7-10

Sept. 6: NO SCHOOL - Labor Day

Sept 7-10: BOOK FAIR WEEK!!

Language Arts:   We will begin our unit on  developing theories about characters. Readers will learn how to notice what characters say/do, including when they act differently than what you would expect, and  how plot and author’s craft can contribute to their theories about a character.

Math: This week we will be using what we have learned about place value round numbers to specific place values.

Science: We will begin to investigate the physical properties of matter.  We will conduct experiments including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to float.

Social Studies: We will begin our unit of the regions of Texas. This week we will focus on the Mountains & Basins/Costal Plains Regions. Learners will identify, locate, and describe the physical regions.

Classroom Reminders:

Just a couple things to help our days run as smoothly as possible:

  • Every child needs to bring a water bottle (labeled, please). We can refill bottles but the actual water fountains are closed for now.
  • We take a snack break each day around 10am as we have a late lunch. Please make sure that all snacks are peanut and tree nut free. This includes peanuts, peanut butter, cashews, almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc. This also includes Nutella. Nuts are okay in the cafeteria for lunch.
  • iPads will be taken home every evening and need to be brought back, fully charged, everyday. We are VERY limited on chargers so it makes it difficult when several need to be plugged in. We have stressed to the learners that they are old enough to be responsible for their iPads but it would be great if you could help reinforce a routine at home.
  • Fidgets as toys are becoming a big problem.  If your child is not truly in need of a fidget to help with concentration, we ask that these stay at home.

Curriculum Night Resources:

Free Lunch:

We have had a little confusion with the free lunch program for elementary aged students. The free lunch consists of a full meal - entree, milk / juice, fruits and veggies.  Other items, such as "seconds," chips, snacks, ice cream, and bottled water are NOT part of the free lunch program and will be charged.
