November 19: Turkey Trot
November 22-26: No School - Fall Break
Balloons Over Broadway Stem Project
We are excited about our Stem Challenge!! We will be integrating across all subjects! Today we read the book, Balloons over Broadway , and talked about the engineering that went into the creation of the floats for the Macy's Day Parade. We also watched a scene from The Sound of Music to show learners about the mechanics of Marionette puppets, which is the idea from which the floats originated! We also talked about how this year when they watch the parade on Thanksgiving day, they will know all the mechanics and engineering that went into the magnificent balloons!
As part of our STEM project, we are asking students to bring in craft supplies like goggly eyes, feathers, or any other craft item that will help them in creating their Animal Float!
We are excited to watch our engineers at work!
Language Arts: We have finished our unit on Non fiction and strategies to understand non fiction texts. We will review figurative language this week to help us be prepared for our unit on poetry when we return from our Fall Break!!!
Math: This week will we continue working on long division. We will focus on using all the strategies we learned and adding in word problems.
Social Studies: Learners will identify Texas’ role in the Mexican War of Independence and the war’s impact on the development of Texas.
Science: This week we are partnering with ELAR and we will be working on our STEM Project. We are super excited to design and build floats.
Turkey Trot:
Each learner needs to have the following items each day:
1. Water Bottle
2. Snack (if your child will be buying one from the cafeteria, this needs to be done as soon as they get to school - not during class)
3. Fully charged iPad - please make sure it is charging at night by double checking the battery icon.
4. If your child brings lunch from home, we are encouraging them to bring their own silverware as the cafe supply is low.

Other items, such as "seconds," chips, snacks, ice cream, and bottled water are NOT part of the free lunch program and will be charged. Homework and Extra Practice
At this time, we will not be assigning any homework. If you are looking for extra practice or resources, we would always encourage students to read at home! (Kids are more motivated to read when they are reading books they've chosen and find interesting.) In addition, students have access to online resources such as iStation, Raz Kids. For math, we would love for students to login to Dreambox or ReflexMath at home and complete lessons.
