 Math

This week in math, we will begin determining products x10, x100, & representing multiplication

  • Determine products of a number being multiplied by 10 or 100 using my understanding of place value.

  • Represent the product of 2 two-digit numbers using arrays, area models, or equations, including perfect squares through 15 by 15.
  • Interpret visuals of multiplication problems and develop an equation to match.

Next week in math, we will introduce multiplication strategies. .

  • Use strategies and algorithms, including the standard algorithm, to multiply up to a four-digit number by a one-digit number and to multiply a two-digit number by a two-digit number.

  • Strategies may include mental math, partial products, and the commutative, associative, and distributive properties.

Social Studies

In Social Studies learners  will continue to  use a map of Texas and describe the regions where each American Indian group lived and how it affected them and the environment.

Science:

This week in science, we will continue our unit of study on matter.  This week we will focus on the physical properties of matter.
  • Measure physical properties of matter including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float using scientific tools.
  • Compare and contrast physical properties of matter including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float using scientific tools.
  • Classify physical properties of matter including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float using scientific tools.

Please make sure that you are reading the Principal Newsletter each week as it will have more information about events and important reminders that we will not have in our BLOG.  Please click the picture below and it will take you to the newsletter.

iPads
TCE 4th graders should come to school each day with their iPad and charger. Please ensure your child charges his/her iPad each evening. Your child should also check periodically to ensure his/her iPad's software is up to date (settings --> general --> software update).

This week, learners will begin filling in a "Charge Bank" to keep track of their daily iPad battery charge.  We hope this helps learners to become responsible for making sure their iPad is fully charged and in their backpacks each morning.  Below, is the daily tracker they will fill out each morning when they arrive to school.

Please remember school issued iPads are for school use only.  We do random iPad checks every few weeks. We reminded the students daily that school issued iPads are not for personal photography, books, or communicating with friends or parents via emails or chats, or watching videos on you tube that were not assigned by their teacher. It would help us out if you could reinforce this home.

Parking and Car Loop Reminders
  • When exiting car loops during arrival and dismissal, follow the city signs requiring a right turn only.
  • Be mindful of not blocking car loop entrances. If there is not room to pull up without blocking the entrance, please wait.
  • Front and side car-loop areas are for families dropping off and picking up their child(ren). Parents in the loops will need to stay in their vehicle. If your child requires additional assistance to get out of the car, please park in one of our parking spaces.
  • Use the designated crosswalks on both the front and side loop when walking across the parking lot. We have staff members at both arrival and dismissal in our crosswalk areas to support our kids in getting across the loop area safely.
  • Keep handicap parking spots available for individuals that require them. Please avoid even briefly pulling into them to drop of your child if you do not have a handicap vehicle designation.
  • Parking along the back curbs of the lots is not an option. You are welcome to utilize the Cozby library parking lot for overflow parking.

Reminder: Apple Watches and Smartwatches
We love that our learners are able to wear their Apple Watches and Smartwatches to school, but could you please remind your child that it is to be used for the time and not playing games and texting parents or parents texting during the school day.   There have been issues in the past and we want to make sure that we are all on the same page.

Reminder: Snack

We will have a short snack time each day while we continue to work. 4th graders do not each lunch until 12:30 PM each day, so it's important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack they bring is completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners.  We also ask that the snack brought in does not require utensils.

Thank you for your help!
