                 Language Arts

In reading, learners will recognize and analyze characteristics of drama. We will explore drama in lots of fun ways such as readers theater, plays and drama games.

In writing,  we will continue the writing process.   We will look at spelling words with the ie, y and igh patterns for the long i sound. We will continue verbs by looking at irregular verbs in Grammar. 


Math
In math this week, we will continue our unit on multiplication.
  • Apply my knowledge of multiplication to represent problems using a strip diagram or equations and to solve problems involving multiplication.

  • Learn a new academic language by using and reusing it to write an equation with an unknown value that shows and solves a multi-step problem and share my plan and solution with a partner.


  Next week in math, we will begin our unit on division. We will focus on                                 representing and estimating division problems.   
  • Represent and solve for the quotient of up to a four-digit whole number divided by a one-digit whole number using arrays, area models, or equations. 
  • Estimate the quotient of a division problem. 
  • Use strategies including the standard algorithm to divide up to a four digit dividend by a one digit divisor. 

Social Studies
In Social Studies, Learners will be able to summarize the reasons for Francisco Coronado exploring Texas.

Science
In we this week, we will continue our unit in physical science. Our focus for the next two weeks will be force and motion.
  • Design a descriptive investigation to explore the effect of force on an object such as gravity, friction, or magnetism in contact or at a distance on an object

Walking Field Trip to Cozby Library
Learners brought home their permission slips and information about our Cozby Walking Field trip. If your child has misplaced or lost this , please contact your child's Reading Teacher for a new one. These are due back to school Friday, October 4th. 

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)

Please help ensure your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!
