Language Arts and Social Studies

In Reading and Writing, we will begin reviewing all the skills we have learned this year to help us prepare for the Reading STAAR on April 9th.

In Grammar and Spelling, we capitalize the titles of written works and we will identify syllable types and use knowledge of syllable division patterns to help me spell words with at least three syllables.

In Social Studies,  we will explain the effects on American Indian life brought about by the Red River War, building of U.S. forts and railroads, and loss of buffalo.

 Math
In math this week, we will:
  •  Use models to determine the formulas for the perimeter of a rectangle (l + w + l + w or 2l + 2w), including the special form for perimeter of a square (4s) and the area of a rectangle (l x w)
  • Solve problems related to perimeter and area of rectangles where dimensions are whole numbers
Next week in Math, we will:
  •  Identify relative sizes of measurement units within the customary and metric system
  • Convert measurements within the same measurement system, customary or metric, from a smaller unit into a larger unit or a larger unit into a smaller unit when given other equivalent measures represented in a table
  •  Solve problems that deal with measurements of length, intervals of time, liquid volumes, mass, and money using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division as appropriate
In Science this week, we will:
  • Explain the critical role of energy resources to modern life and how conservation, disposal, and recycling of natural resources impact the environment

In Science next week, we will:
  • Investigate and explain how most producers can make their own food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide through the cycling of matter

Hats and Toys

Our classrooms are a place for learning, growing, and having fun with friends. To help everyone stay focused, we ask that hats and toys stay at home. That way, our classrooms can be distraction-free, and we can all enjoy our time together while learning new things.
