Reading- We will continue our Author Study by selecting an author and getting to know their work at an expert level.  We can pay close attention to the plot elements used by the authors we are studying.

Writing- We can continue to investigate what makes a graphic novel special, and we can generate ideas for writing graphic novels.

Grammar-We will review compound sentences.

Spelling- We will review prefixes and suffixes.

At Home connection for spelling:

                                          “Word Detective at Home” Activity
Ask your child to be a ‘word detective’ and find words with prefixes and suffixes around your home. Have them explain what each part means and how it changes the word. Keep it light and fun— learning happens best through conversation!”
Example:
  • redo → re- = again → “do again”
  • careless → -less = without → “without care”
Social Studies -We will explain the impact of various events on life in Texas, such as the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and World War II.

Math
In Math this week, we will:
  • Take the Math STAAR!!!
  • Begin a place value project

In Science this week, we will:
  • Differentiate between inherited and acquired physical traits of organisms

Cereal Boxes

A Note From Mrs. Star

Beginning May 4, students will not be allowed to carry a negative balance on their lunch accounts. If a student does not have enough funds on a given day, they will still be provided a meal, but the balance will need to be paid the following day.

As we approach the end of the school year, please take a moment to check your child’s lunch account and ensure it has a positive balance. This will help our cafeteria team close out accounts smoothly.

Thank you for your support!

Hats and Toys

Our classrooms are a place for learning, growing, and having fun with friends. To help everyone stay focused, we ask that hats and toys stay at home. That way, our classrooms can be distraction-free, and we can all enjoy our time together while learning new things.
