This week in mathwill will finish up fractions and start our unit on geometry. This week we will focus on angles, lines, and triangles.

  • Identify points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, and perpendicular and parallel lines.
  • Apply knowledge of right triangles to identify acute, right, and obtuse triangles.
  • Identify parts of lines and angles and name triangles using mathematical vocabulary.
Next week in math, we will learn about 2-D shapes and how to classify them. We will also do a review of symmetry.

  • Identify and draw one or more lines of symmetry, if they exist, for a 2D figure.

  • Use math vocabulary to compare and contrast shapes based on lines and angles.

  • Classify 2D figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines or of angles of a specified size.

Social Studies

In SS this week, we will learn about the impact of the Railroad and how it effected different populations in Texas.

Science:
This week in science, we will learn about plant and animal life cycles.

Field Trip

4th Grade is going to KidZania on Friday, May 3rd!  A pink field trip permission slip was sent home today.  Please make sure to read over the information and if you have any questions, please email your homeroom teacher.

We understand that parents like to chaperone for field trips,  but we will not be taking chaperones to KidZania.  We will have 8 teacher/staff members that will be going to help monitor and guide the children.

Please make sure to have your child's permission slip and payment turned in by April 5th as Mrs. Fairchild will need to get the payment to KidZania.  If there is a  financial reason as to why you can not pay the admission cost, please don't hesitate to reach out.

iPads

New iPad Features:

Each classroom will get a set of an Apple Compatible Metapen or Epen that students will be able to use at school. Additionally, each student's iPad will be equipped with a keyboard case, enhancing functionality and versatility.

Parent Support Resources:

This link — www.bulbapp.com/u/family-resources~3 — includes information on the district’s iPad filtering system and how to set up a screen guide for parental controls of the iPad when at home.

As a reminder, all CISD iPads are filtered by the district’s filtering system, Lightspeed, whether they are used at a CISD school or facility, at home, or another location.

ScreenGuide is an app from Mosyle, CISD's device management provider, that allows parents and guardians to manage school-issued iPads. Through this app, you can do things like configure screen time limits, remotely lock the iPad, lock the iPad into an app, and hide certain apps. To learn more, visit www.bulbapp.com/u/screenguide-parental-controls.

The Device Protection Plan, which families had the opportunity to purchase in the fall, will apply to these new iPads. For those who haven’t purchased the Device Protection Plan, you can still participate for a pro-rated cost of $15 per device, if purchased between Feb. 26 and March 29.  Visit www.coppellisd.com/deviceplan for more information.

These new iPads are part of the voter-approved CISD Bond and come with enhanced performance and features, promising to elevate the learning and working experience for CISD students and staff. In today's digital age, iPads have become an essential teaching tool, integral to the CISD learning experience, and crucial for state standardized testing, which is now conducted online and begins in third grade.

Please remember school issued iPads are for school use only.  We do random iPad checks every few weeks. We reminded the students daily that school issued iPads are not for personal photography, books, or communicating with friends or parents via emails or chats, or watching videos on you tube that were not assigned by their teacher. It would help us out if you could reinforce this home.

Lunch Visitors

We know this is a special treat for families. Thank you for your attention to the process and details below so we can keep safety a priority with visitors coming in and out of our building.

Here are some answers to questions you might have:What is the process for visiting my child at lunch?

1. Sign-in at the officeLunch visitors will be required to sign in at the front office and receive a visitor badge that must be worn at all times. We will need to see a photo ID (either your license or passport).2. Eat lunch with your childYou will be able to eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria. There will be designated tables for lunch visitors. You may only eat with your child. No other learners may be invited to eat with you. You may purchase lunch in the cafeteria or bring a lunch for you and your child only (please, no extras for friends). 3. Sign out in the officeParents will be dismissed from the cafeteria. You will need to go back through the front office to sign out at the end of lunchtime. Parents will not be able to join their child(ren) back in the class or at recess.

Who can visit my child for lunch?

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district eschool system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.

Please make sure that you are reading the Principal Newsletter each week as it will have more information about events and important reminders that we will not have in our BLOG.

Watches and Phones
We have noticed that more and more of our students have been wearing smart watches to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies for their iPads.) This includes parents. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to get in touch with your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate, they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

Yearbooks
Our yearbook sale is now open! Each year we have a Town Center Yearbook that highlights photos from every class, school events, and staff. It is a great item to have to look back on memories from the year, and we even have a yearbook signing party in May. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, please see the graphic below for the different purchasing options. As a reminder, the TCE Yearbook cost WAS NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass. If you would like a yearbook for your child(ren), you will need to purchase using the website link below.

Our yearbook committee would also love your help in submitting photos for the yearbook. As you attend campus events, if you have any photos you would like to share, see below for information on uploading them to our committee.
