                 Language Arts
In ELAR, we will finish up our novel study of The Tiger Rising. We will review author Kate DiCamillo’s craft and explore fun activities as we end this unit. We will begin with Point of View and how authors use different points of view for stories. We will look at final stable syllables in Spelling.  In grammar ,we will look at common and proper nouns. In writing we will continue narrative writing, looking at characters, plot and hooking our reader.

Math
In math this week, we will begin our unit on multiplication.
  • Determine products of a number being multiplied by 10 or 100 using my understanding of place value.
  • Represent the product of 2-digit numbers using arrays, area models, or equations, including perfect squares through 15 by 15.
  • Interpret visuals of multiplication problems and develop an equation to match.

  Next week in math, we will focus on learning the strategies to help use multiply.

  • Use strategies and algorithms, including the standard algorithm, to multiply up to a four-digit number by a one-digit number and to multiply a two-digit number by a two-digit number.
  • Strategies may include mental math, partial products, and the commutative, associative, and distributive properties.
  • Describe with math vocabulary and details the process for multiplying up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number using the standard algorithm.



Social Studies
In Social Studies this week, we will explore the early history of Texas by looking at  reasons why people have adapted to and modified their environment in Texas.

Science
In we this week, we will continue our unit on matter. Our focus for the week will be physical properties of matter.
  • Measure physical properties of matter including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float using scientific tools.
  • Compare and contrast physical properties of matter including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float using scientific tools.
  • Classify physical properties of matter including mass, volume, states, temperature, magnetism, and the ability to sink or float using scientific tools.

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)

Please help ensure your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Thursday 3rd grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!
