                 Language Arts
In Reading/Language Arts, we will continue to work on point of view and perspective from which the events in the story we are told. We will begin looking at changes in characters as we note how characters change throughout a story, depending on problems, obstacles and people they meet in the story.

In Spelling this week,  we will continue final stable syllables ( words that end in constant LE) and in grammar we will review pronouns.

In writing we will continue our narrative writing, looking at story plot and endings.

Math
In math this week, we will continue our unit on multiplication.
  • Use strategies and algorithms, including the standard algorithm, to multiply up to a four-digit number by a one-digit number and to multiply a two-digit number by a two-digit number.
  • Strategies may include mental math, partial products, and the commutative, associative, and distributive properties.
  • Describe with math vocabulary and details the process for multiplying up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number using the standard algorithm.

Next week in math, we will focus on learning the strategies to help use multiply.
  • Apply my knowledge of multiplication to represent problems using a strip diagram or equations and to solve problems involving multiplication.

  • Learn a new academic language by using and reusing it to write an equation with an unknown value that shows and solves a multi-step problem and share my plan and solution with a partner.

Social Studies
In Social Studies this week, we will look at the characteristics of American Indian groups in Texas and how they lived and adapted to the environment.

Science
In we this week, we will continue our unit in physical science. Our focus for the next two weeks will be force and motion.

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Please click on the link below to complete it.
