Math

In math this week, we will begin our unit covering place value of whole numbers.
  • Represent the value of the digit in whole numbers through 1,000,000,000 using expanded notation, standard, word, and expanded form.
  • Interpret the value of each place-value position as 10 times the position to the right and as one-tenth of the value of the place to its left.
  • Read numbers aloud using base-ten language
Next week in math, we will continue our study of place value of whole numbers.
  • Compare and order whole numbers to 1,000,000,000 and represent comparisons using the symbols >, <, or =.
Science

In Science this week, we will demonstrate safe practices and the use of safety equipment during classroom and field investigations and research, and explore resources such as museums, libraries, professional organizations, private companies, online platforms, and mentors employed in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field to investigate STEM careers

Next week in Science, we will classify and describe matter using observable physical properties, including temperature, mass, magnetism, relative density (the ability to sink or float in water), and physical state (solid, liquid, gas)

Hats and Toys

Our classrooms are a place for learning, growing, and having fun with friends. To help everyone stay focused, we ask that hats and toys stay at home. That way, our classrooms can be distraction-free, and we can all enjoy our time together while learning new things.

Background Checks

We ask that all families complete a volunteer background check at the start of the year. They do not carry over from year to year. Since the background checks take time to process, we ask that everyone complete one in case any type of volunteering opportunity (class field trip, Dad's Club, Room parent, class volunteer, field day, etc.) arises during the year that you are interested in. Please click on the link below to complete it.
